Introducing Nancy
Nancy Zimmerman grew up in Yellowknife, then thawed out in Vancouver for 20 years. While in Vancouver she worked for a bank right up until the 2008 financial crisis.
Although she wasn’t a financial advisor, during her time at the bank, Nancy simultaneously worked with individuals helping them get a handle on their finances. She helped them deal with their debt in a realistic way, start setting clear financial goals and setting up their cash flow to meet them, develop a healthy relationship with money, and start wealth-building.
She loved her work but set it aside after returning to the Northwest Territories in 2009. It turns out that helping people with their finances is a calling that won’t take no for an answer. That’s why Nancy is currently developing “Your Money by Design 2.0”, an online course to roll out in 2019.
Meanwhile, she manages her rental properties, works as a civil servant, and keeps an eye on her investments in this unpredictable financial climate.
What would you say has been the biggest shift in your life since turning 40?
I’m so much more at ease with myself thanks to yoga and meditation (and my anchor spirituality — Christian faith).
And at the risk of being self-serving, seriously, having a really solid financial life (after years of turmoil in my 20s and 30s) is fantastic. My retirement is secure. I have good savings and a great cash flow. (But it took years to get here!).
When do you feel you are most powerful?
I love getting in front of a mic or video camera and sharing what I know.
What are the top 3 most important things to you right now?
My relationship with the Divine, deepening community, caring for creation and doing all I can to slow climate change.
How do you make sure your actions are aligned with what’s most important to you?
I have a pretty sensitive inner compass, and at this stage in life, I’m pretty bold about speaking up for my values and keeping them safe in my core.
What seeds are you planting today for the future?
Working every day on my online course – so creative, and interesting, this digital world of ours!
What advice would you give someone who is interested in redesigning midlife?
Ensure you have a good financial safety net. Then go for it. The world deeply needs women who are principled and courageous and have some hard-won wisdom to boot.
How can people connect with you and your work?
